Science Talks

I regularly give talks at astronomy clubs and other science events. I have several topics on which I can talk, and am usually working on a new topic, so please do ask me.

The Chelyabinsk Meteor: On 15 February 2013 a meteor detonated over the industrial town of Chelyabinsk in Sibera. It showered space rocks down onto the surrounding landscape, drawing thousands of people to go hunting them them. I was one of them, shooting a documentary for Channel 4 called Meteor Strike – Fireball from Space. This talk tells the story of both the meteor and my trip to see it.

Touching other worlds: When it comes to space, there is nothing that grabs the attention more than the idea of travelling to other worlds – not just to look at them, but to land on them and touch them. This talk is a brief history of the landers and rovers that have gone throughout the Solar System and touched other worlds.

TRAPPIST-1: In February 2017, a team of scientists announced they had found a system of seven Earth-sized planets around a red dwarf star. This talk will be on what we have learned about these worlds so far. Currently a work in progress.
